The Heidelberger Register is a mechanical and electronic system that aligns each sheet in perfect position as it moves through the press. It adjusts the sheet laterally (side-to-side), circumferentially (along the direction of sheet travel), and in skew (rotation), ensuring that each printed image lands exactly where it should—across all units and colors.

This level of precision is particularly important in multi-color jobs where even the slightest misalignment can cause ghosting, color fringes, or blurred text. By constantly correcting the position of each sheet, the system guarantees high registration accuracy, even at high speeds and long runs.

How It Works
At the core of the system are register cylinders and sensors that measure the position of each sheet as it enters the printing unit. If any deviation is detected from the target position, the system makes fine mechanical adjustments in real time to bring the sheet into perfect alignment.

These corrections are extremely fast and subtle—often just fractions of a millimeter—but they are crucial for maintaining print quality across the entire run.
